So with the lockdown there’s been the challenge of keeping ourselves occupied with the free time we’ve been getting. Routines have changed drastically for a lot of us with us being confined to our homes, places shut down and us having to practice social distancing.
I thought It’d be nice to share with you all what I’ve been doing whilst at home. Hopefully there’s someone who might get a few ideas from my routine something new to their routine that they dont do normally.
A core part of my routine has been the home workouts I’ve been doing in my back garden, trying to get some more equipment online to keep my workouts fresh and versatile.
Working out and keeping fit and healthy consistently is hard enough for many gym goers. Throw into the mix of no access to the gym and the challenge doubles. Little to no access to gym equipment has meant those who rely heavily on studio classes, resistance or weight training like myself to keep fit have had to adapt.
A medicine ball and sandbag I bought from BlkBox and PhysioRoom (shoutout to them!) arrived last week and been loving every single exercise with them. I’ve added another element to my training and it’s great to be able to train my body in new ways.

I’m a big fan of the comic-book genre, mainly on the Marvel and DC side. Whether that be the films, TV shows or comics. Generally I love the thrill, the escape from reality they all give me and seeing people doing things that can only be imagined. For now at least – who knows – one can hope superheroes legitimately exist one day 😂 Slowly I’ve been expanding my comc-book and graphic novel collection, getting Flash, Batman and the crossover ones. I had a few I bought from MCM Comic Con last year and had yet to start reading so it’s been nice being able to catch up.
As of typing I’m reading DC’s Final Crisis for any comic book fans reading this post. I try and spend an hour and a bit reading or try and reach at least an issue. Sometimes I dose off though because my bed is super comfy and when I lie down I’m more prone to napping (not because I’m not intrigued by the storyline) but hey ho – automatic self-care right!
Reorganizing My Bedroom Storage
We’re in the season of spring cleaning so we might as well do a bit of a bedroom shakeup wherever needed.
On my bedroom shelf there were papers, folders, wires and plugs scattered around in their own spaces. It was organised mess but mess I wasnt entirely happy with. I bought some storage baskets so that I can have neat places to put my books, games and DVDs.
For my papers and folders I got myself 1 or 2 file trays. Whilst I’ll be the first to admit that its doesn’t look exactly Instagram-worthy it’s much more tidy and presentable than before! #DIY
Quality Time With Family
Spending time with close ones and doing things together is more important than ever. It’s a chance for bonds to become stronger as you’re all stuck and not have as many responsibilities to attend to. This is especially at a time where our mental health can be all over the place with concerns over our own physical wellbeing, income and stresses from not seeing friends and other relatives.
I’ve found myself playing card and board games with my nephews. A few weeks ago I taught my nephews how to play Monopoly and they never left the Monopoly for the whole of the afternoon. It’s cool occupying theme with something other than a tablet or smartphone. My oldest brother and I did a shopping errand. I literally for the life of me can’t remember if we ever done shopping together. It was bond-building and refreshing.
Doing More Shopping Errands
Almost every day since lockdown I’ve found myself venturing out on my bike for a 1+ hour shopping goose chase around my area. Supermarkets, off licenses, fruit & veg stalls, discount stores – occasional trips to Holland & Barrett you name it.
My mum has been sending on errands to get food cos she’s still working (luckily!) and cant be bothered with the queues stretching all the way into the middle of car parks. Honestly I don’t blame her as at times my patience and tolerance has been tested.
If you live near a Lidl’s you’d know what I mean. For those who don’t imagine the queues for a Beyonce auto sesh would look like. Because of all of this myself and my bike have literally become one. You can make a case for us being a strong couple, probably stronger than Love Island ones (no shade no tea round here!).
Cooking and Baking
With the situation right now it’s a great time for me to do some meal prep and to try out new recipes. I was seriously into baking before the lockdown and been carrying that through. My go-to baking recipes has been banana bread and cakes. The occasional protein pancake and cookies have been made as well.
One thing I really wanna make in the near future is Lemon Tofu – and bake a Shepherd’s Pie or Cottage Pie at least once. Just once!
Binging on Netflix and Disney+
Of course of course, which millennial or Gen-Z is going to pass up on the opportunity to go on a series of binges (pun intended indeed) when there’s free time on their hands.
Disney+ launch in the UK couldn’t have come at a better time. There’s so much stuff on the platform I don’t even know where to start! I’ve only rewatched a couple of Marvel films and animated shows and the new HSM series but no way in hell am I exiting lockdown having only done that.
With Netflix I’ve gravitated towards watching more films than TV shows and films that are relevant and powerful from a cultural and societal pov. 12 Years A Slave and Contagion to name a few. I personally struggle with series I know I have to do a lot of catching up with, especially if the eps are 50+ mins long. If the eps are shorter and there arent many seasons then it’ll do for me but otherwise – you probably wont be seeing me lose my shit over Peaky Blinders or Ozark anytime soon.
Gaming on my PS4
My PS4 and controller have seen less dust on it than the whole of last year. Such as the amount of times I’ve found myself playing. My main go-to game has been F1 2019 and I’ve hooked onto it, even thought the dirty driving online has sent me into small rage fits. I’ve dearly missed watches racing on a Saturday and Sunday and the game has been a useful way still doing something racing-related. Have to say though I never thought I’d found myself sweating from a gaming session before.
I’m grabbing a few more games to stave off the boredom. I’ve ordered a copy of the most recent Spiderman game and looking into getting some of the Batman Arkham games which I’ve heard are amazing! Very rarely have I played Action-Adventure games so it’d be nice to try something new. Any suggestions you guys have for games I should buy feel free to drop them below.
Getting Back To Blogging
Saving the best thing till last!
This has been the opportunity for me to overcome my writers block and get back into blogging regularly. I have literally zero excuses and it would’ve been a bit of a shame if I didnt spend quarantine turning to my blog a good enough amount of times.
You may or may not have noticed I didnt post for the entirety of March. I touched on it a bit but reasons for not posting was because I was just lacking in creative juice and motivation to write. It’s as simple as that. I felt I was in a place where other things took priority over blogging and the latter was put on the back burner a bit.
I was able to add a few blog links to my dropdown menus that I happen to forget to do. I also updated my media kit and approaching graphic designers about designing a new blog banner and maybe theme too.
It’s great to be back involved in a community that have been warm and supportive and great rediscovering motivation for a passion of mine. And that’s been my lockdown life.
It’s been horrible that people are dying, losing loved ones and that many are risking their lives everyday to treat the most vulnerable and beat the virus. But it’s always important to stay in a positive space mentally and physically. As much as I miss my old life (and things probably wont be the same) it’s been refreshing taking on new activities, having more freedom and paying more attention to things that are the most important: family and health.
What’s your day to day life been like during lockdown? Hope you’re all staying at home, staying safe and sane 🙂
