Exploring the world is becoming more and more attractive to people, particularly for the typical millennial looking to find themselves and their purpose in the world. There are travel addicts out there who carry certain traits that they pick up from travelling avidly.
It could be to do with packing, could be to do with doing certain activities or mannerisms and dialogue in conversations with people. Some may be travel withdrawal symptoms travellers suffer from. We all have our own tell tale signs.
But here’s 10 popular signs that the travel bug has infected you and rewritten your whole DNA:
1. You book another trip or holiday straight after another
Or even when you’re still on that current holiday if you’re really on one!
I remember when I booked my maligned trip to Luxembourg last year on Ryanair after arriving back in London from Naples. That’s when I knew it was official. Man had joined the travel clan.
2. You feel that the worst part of your trip is catching the plane back home.
The end is nigh – because the return to your normal life is pending.
3. You think about being on holiday during your 9-5 job
Your 9-5 job cannot fulfill your need to be entertained, to be inspired, to be amazed.
Basically – you’d rather be somewhere else far far away on an unforgettable adventure that’s not near your office desk, involving you typing onto a PC and waiting for your daily 30 minute work break. You defo want to be typing to your friends about how lit your holiday is and you defo want that 30 minute lunch to be a lifestyle brunch on an exotic island instead.
4. You remember the exact date of a country you’ve travelled to and what do did
Might be a bit autistic but great, life-defining memories is something that’s for keeps. You go as far as to remembering the dates you lived your best travel life.
5. You’re able to pack your suitcase without thought
You know all the travel essentials you need with ease. You know how to fold your socks to. You know the way in which you have to place your spare pair of shoes. It’s all second nature.
To sound proper cheesy: you’re one with your luggage.
6. You always have a travel story to tell
Each travel experience is unique. You’ll more than likely doing activities you haven’t done before, meeting different people, trying out the local cuisine, speaking and stammering in languages you’ve barely comprehended *takes deep breath*
Chances are you’ll have plenty of worthwhile anecdotes to share with friends and family. If anything it’s a story in its own.
7. You often will start your sentences with “when I was in…”
To break the 4th wall here a bit, I’m sure plenty of my sentences on posts have even started with this.
One advice guys, once you hear a traveller utter those words switch those listening ears of yours ON. Maybe some popcorn too if the story’s about to get juicy!
8. You get to security and you always want to be a pro at taking out every metal and liquid
Everything has to be done as fast as possible. Especially when you’re cutting it close for gates closing.
I time myself. Security checks en route to Edinburgh I walked through the metal detector with confidence thinking that I was clean till yhat detector went off. But when they actually detect something and then I realised I left my belt on. I felt like kicking myself a bit as it was a amateurish error as an experienced traveler.
9. You’re often making new friends
Like I say – it feels like you’re making your mark all over the world.
10. You’re pissed off that Ryanair changed their cabin bag policy (Disclaimer: Mostly applies to budget explorers)
Damn right you are!
Personally I think the change is nothing more than a cash grab for RyanAir. I didn’t see any practical or safety issue with non-priority passengers having a small handbag and cabin bag nor did I hear vast amount of complaints from passengers. At times the change seems pointless as a lot of airports I’ve visited since the new policy’s been introduced don’t bother checking passenger’s bags either.
