About Johnny Himself

My name is Doctor John Aiwone, my friends and family just call me John or Johnny because I’m not actually a Doctor and it’s just a birth name given to me by my mum. I’m 23 and was born and raised in East London with my parents originating from Nigeria. Sport and Exercise Science graduate from the University of Essex with a 2:1 as well as being a qualified fitness instructor.

What inspired you to start travelling?

Well the clichéd response would be to “experience different cultures and food”, to “party”, “see the world” etc. The truth is that while these are some of the reasons, the main reason was due to me being bored of the same old and living around my limits, travelling for me is more about coaching myself some independence: working out to get around the language barrier in a foreign country, figuring out which transport is best to (sometimes without having the trusty WiFi or 3/4G haha) use in order to get to the main attractions and hotspots and generally for a peace of mind to be honest. All in all it’s all a learning experience and an exciting challenge to add to my lifestyle 🙂

If you could live in another country which one would it be?

That would have to be Canada as far as the way I view life at the very moment. I went to Brampton, which is outside of Toronto, to visit my welcoming and sweet 2nd cousins and enjoyed almost every single minute of it. The people in Canada are traditionally friendly and sociable and me being cut from  a similar cloth can see myself thriving there in the long-term unlike in Britain where people tend to keep to themselves and view the nicest of gestures and acts of generosity with cynicism and pretence. In terms of food you also got more than your value for money. It’s also unreal how I noticed how close Niagara Falls was to America not to mention the US having their own Niagara falls. The convenience of where Toronto is on the world map means that the road trips to the US are pending until  I hit Canada again.
Sweet Christmas.

What are your hobbies and interests apart from travelling?

I’m a fan of quite a few sports, namely Football and Formula 1, which I used to write about also if you’re one of my social media followers or former journalist colleagues. Sadly I’m an avid Arsenal supporter so have to endure a lot of annual pain and heartbreak but the passion I have for Motor racing makes up for it 😀 Also watch the occasional grand slam in Tennis and boxing match.
Aside from sports I enjoy reading, particularly autobiographies and comic-books, and watching popular TV shows and movies as well as listening to reviews. Relationship and life podcasts are my time fillers in case I want to go bed after my regular gym session, always looking for a gym partner.

Favourite Footballer and Formula 1 driver?

Thierry Henry hands down and F1 it’s tied between Lewis Hamilton (obviously because I’m black haha) and Ayrton Senna.

Favourite Food and drink?

I’m quite fickle when it comes to my favourite food, sometimes it’s Pizza, sometimes it’s Mac and Cheese, other times it’s crepes or a lamb kebab so my favourite is fluid in that sense. As for drinks it’s a nice, chilled glass of lemonade with ice for soft drinks, smirnoff vodka and coke or a bottle of kopperberg for alcoholic.

Marvel or DC?

I’m allowed to say both aren’t I 🙂

Netflix or Amazon Prime?

Netflix (and a bit of chill too!).

Are you single?

Yes, subject to change of course.

So what can we expect from the “Travel Connoisseur” and the blog?

Well I want to start off by sharing my own travelling experiences on a monthly to bimonthly basis  and rating each category such as food and drink, people, attractions on each trip to another country or city. Hopefully there will be the possibility of expanding to interviews and Q&As posts on recent trips and holidays fellow friends, family and even readers have been on. I’m also open to the occasional poem on a city or country and a reflective piece on significant events that have taken place in the world.
I’m just here to explore the “small world” and make it bigger.
