Blogger Q&A: Katie Lauren

Posted by
Hey guys 🙂 Hope you’ve had a good week and a even better weekend at the time I publish this!

As indicated from the title of the post, this post is one that’s going to differ from out of the norm and is going to be a collab with a fellow blogger of mine.

These Q&A style posts with bloggers are opportunities for me and my readers to connect with other contributors to the blogging community and find out what blogging means to them and discover more about aspects of their personal life. Thus growing awareness for their blog much in the vain of award nomination posts.

Furthermore, social media and online influencers have so much power in influencing (pun intended) the minds and actions of their viewers that it’s imperative to know who is behind the content that potentially impacts lives.

I’m happy to be doing this Q&A with Katie, a Uni student who blogs about pretty much anything and everything lifestyle, including self-motivation posts, personal favourites, travel and beauty. Since I’ve followed her on social media I’ve really enjoyed reading her posts and what she’s been offering to the world of blogging. For those who may not have noticed already, Katie also nominated me for the Bloscar Awards not long ago.

Katie is the 2nd blogger of hopefully many to feature in this series, but anyway lets stopping talking about me and my blog and get onto getting to know her:

Describe travelling in three words?

Exciting, Fulfilling, Addictive

What has been your best blog post to date and why?

I love writing the majority of my blogs, all for different reasons. I am probably most proud of ‘How to manage the unmanageable’ as this was my first company collaboration and that was a big things for me. I love this type of blog as well as my blogs about managing your student loan etc. because I know that it’ll hopefully help at least one of my readers.

What’s been your favourite blogs to read since the turn of the year?

I generally love reading and travel guides or university based blogs. The travel blogs help me prepare for my next trips and make me add new places onto my never-ending bucket list. As for University blogs, I can just relate to them which I love.

What advice would you give to those who are interested in starting a blog?

The biggest piece of advice I could give is to stick at it. It’ll be disheartening when you see you’re not getting many views, likes or comments. Things like this don’t come instantly, you need to create engaging content and keep up your commitment in order to engage an audience. It is possible if you put your heart and mind into it.

Being a Uni student and around this time of the year from experience I know meeting deadlines for assignments and revision for exams stresses us to near death, how do you balance your blogging and travelling life with your studies?

I make sure I split my time based on importance, for example, Uni work comes first since Uni stress is costing me a pleasant £9250. Then in any spare time or typically my evenings, I spend my time writing and scheduling blog posts so that they can go up ahead of time over my busy deadline periods. It’s difficult, but it’s possible given you’re committed to both.

One post that stood out for me on your blog was A Submerged Generation post about smartphone users constantly scrolling without a thought and I’m guilty of this from time to time especially when on the train underground with no reception whatsoever haha. What was the exact moment that made you step out of that bubble and write that post? What alternatives would you give other than the endless scroll?

It’s funny because I was literally laying in bed trying to go to sleep but my mind was on overdrive and had these thoughts come into my head, so as I was half-asleep I was making notes about scrolling, my perception and how it takes over my life and the life of others. It was hit and miss over whether the notes would make sense the next morning, but luckily they did and the post did quite well! I do typically like thinking about the media and our consumption of social media in this kind of sense as it’s super interesting and often motivational to make a change. As for alternatives to scrolling, it would be situation specific but i’d either make conversation with the people who are around you or take a bit of time within your own headspace, check up on yourself think about some nice memories or think about things you’ve done/ thinks you want or need to do.

If you weren’t blogging, which hobby and interest do you think you would invest more time in?

I would probably spend a lot more of my time focused on creating YouTube content. The media enthusiast I am, I love being creative in all aspects. I have a few videos on YouTube already of holidays or tutorials, butI think i’d post tutorials more regular. I love setting up my tripod and light boxes, getting fancy camera angles and then playing around with some crazy editing styles.

Miami or Croatia?

Both places look absolutely gorgeous, but since I’ve been on many European holidays in my past, i’d have to opt for Miami so I can explore more of America while i’m still young.

Paris or New York?

New York 100%. I’m taking a trip to New York for the first time next month so I was looking on Google Maps to get my bearings and i’m shocked by how much there is to see and do in New York, I would love to go for 6 months or so in order to try many restaurants and visit all the quirky places.

So that’s a bit about Katie herself. Make sure before clicking away that you follow Katie on social media and her wordpress blog too if possible. Her blog and social media handles can be found in the links below:
